Michael Pedley
I have been a full-time travel writer for the last 13 years, working since 1996 for Holiday Which? until 2008 when I left behind the cosy world of a staff writer to work freelance.
My unscratchable itch for seeing new places has pushed me around the planet, visiting 90-odd countries (and counting..) in a career where I've always worked in travel one way or another. Before writing for a living I lived an ex-pat life for 10 years as an overseas manager for UK tour operators, so I know the ins and outs and the murky backwaters of the holiday industry pretty well.
My specialist subject is France and North Africa ie Morocco and Tunisia, as I have lived in these places for years after doing my degree in French and German. But that's not my only area of expertise: I've got a pretty sound knowledge of much of Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Australia and India, among other countries that I have lived in and written about. Over the years I've also done reports on dozens of destinations worldwide, including Argentina, Vietnam, Oman, Costa Rica, the Silk Route from Xi'an to Samarkand - the list goes on! As well as writing travel features, I also have plenty of experience of writing for guidebooks, having worked on various Which? guides including the Which? Guide to Good hotels, Buying Property Abroad, Which? Guide to Worldwide Destinations, and the Good Food Guide.
Since I started working freelance I have become a member of the British Guild of Travel writers, written for the VisitBritain website and have just finished several months work for the AA Restaurant Guide 2010.
